12 Things We Always Forget When Going to the Beach (And That End Up Ruining the Day)

There are two types of people.

Those who arrive at the beach, lay down their towel, and enjoy the day from the first minute.

And those who, ten minutes after arriving, are already thinking: "How could I forget this again?"

Curiously, almost all of us repeat the same mistakes summer after summer. Some are just inconvenient, but others can make a perfect day end prematurely.

Before packing your bag for your next getaway, check this list. It's very likely you'll find more than one detail you've also forgotten at some point.

1. Sunscreen... but enough of it

It's not enough to just throw a bottle in your bag.

Thousands of people bring a practically empty container, thinking it will be enough for the whole day.

Dermatologists recommend reapplying sunscreen every two hours and always after swimming. When it's very hot, a small container can run out surprisingly fast.

It is, probably, the most frequent oversight of the summer.

2. Plenty of water

Heat, salt, and sun make us lose fluids much faster than we think.

Waiting until you're thirsty means dehydration has already begun.

A large reusable bottle or a portable cooler with several cold bottles can make a huge difference throughout the day.

3. A dry shirt for the way back

It seems like an unimportant detail...

Until it's time to get into the car with a shirt soaked in saltwater.

Changing before heading back makes the journey much more comfortable and also prevents salt from remaining on your skin for hours.

4. A bag to store your wet swimsuit

It's incredible how many people still put their swimsuit directly on top of the rest of their clothes.

The result is usually always the same.

Everything ends up wet.

A simple waterproof bag takes up very little space and completely avoids this problem.

5. A hat

Many people protect their skin perfectly... but completely forget their head.

After several hours under the sun, headaches, excessive heat, and fatigue appear.

A good hat reduces direct sun exposure and makes any walk along the beach or boardwalk much more enjoyable.

6. Quality sunglasses

Glasses aren't just for seeing better.

A lens with UV protection shields the eyes from solar radiation and greatly reduces visual fatigue.

It's one of those accessories we only appreciate when we forget it at home.

7. An external battery

The mobile phone has become an essential part of any beach day.

Photos.

Videos.

Music.

Maps.

Payments.

Calls.

Everything consumes battery.

A small power bank can save you much more than just a few photos.

8. Lip balm

Wind, salt, and sun dry out lips much faster than we imagine.

It is one of the most forgotten products and, at the same time, one of the most appreciated when we have been outdoors for several hours.

9. Really comfortable flip-flops

We've all bought flip-flops once just because they were pretty.

The problem appears after walking for half an hour on hot sand or along a boardwalk.

A good pair of flip-flops can last you for years and make walking infinitely more comfortable.

10. A sun protection shirt

More and more people are using UPF protection shirts for paddleboarding, kayaking, snorkeling, or simply for spending many hours under the sun.

In addition to protecting the skin, they are much more comfortable than constantly reapplying cream.

It's no coincidence that they are one of the fastest-growing clothing items in recent summers.

11. A small bag for waste

A can.

A wrapper.

A napkin.

These are minimal details that, when thousands of people do the same, end up becoming tons of trash every summer.

Carrying a small bag to store waste until you find a trash can helps keep our beaches much cleaner.

12. Check the wind... not just the sun

Many people only check if it will be sunny.

But the wind can completely change a beach day.

A seemingly perfect day can turn into an uncomfortable afternoon due to strong gusts, waves, or constantly blowing sand.

Checking the full forecast takes barely a minute and avoids many disappointments.

It's the small details that make all the difference

Most beach days aren't ruined by big problems.

They're ruined by small oversights.

A dry shirt.

Enough water.

A hat.

Good flip-flops.

Sunscreen.

A bag for wet clothes.

Simple items that take up hardly any space and yet can turn an uncomfortable day into a truly relaxing one.

Next time you pack your bag, take a minute to review this list.

It's very possible that minute will end up being the most useful of your entire vacation.
